TraderPlanet.com Announces Valentine's Day Stock-Picking Contest Winner

Texan Wins Cash, Prizes; American Heart Association Receives Donation

Tampa Bay, FL (PRWEB) February 20, 2009 -- Jeri Brown of Seabrook, Texas, is the winner of the Valentine's Day trading contest sponsored by TraderPlanet.com, the coolest social networking website for active traders and investors.

Members registered guesses on TraderPlanet.com for the closing price on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, of several stocks often associated with Valentine's Day:

  • Victoria's Secret (NYSE Symbol: LTD), $8.14
  • Hershey's (NYSE Symbol: HSY), $36.87
  • 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. (NYSE Symbol: FLWS), $2.39
  • American Greetings (NYSE Symbol: AM), $4.99

For being the closest to guessing each of the four stocks' closing prices, Brown will collect a prize package valued at $350. Mr. Brown rates his technical analysis skills as "elementary" but says he looks to TraderPlanet.com for help. He credits a little bit of market prediction with a lot of good luck for his success with the contest.

Brown's guesses were:

  • Victoria's Secret (NYSE Symbol: LTD), $7.25
  • Hershey's (NYSE Symbol: HSY), $36.63
  • 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. (NYSE Symbol: FLWS), $2.00
  • American Greetings (NYSE Symbol: AM), $3.98

Brown says he'll "plant the proceeds of the contest somewhere and nurture its growth to new fortunes." He acknowledges having seen "many peaks and troughs" during his time in the markets and offers as his best trading tip for other traders, "Use your head, listen to your heart and go with your gut." His trading interest is international markets and he rates his trading success as "pretty normal".

As part of the contest, www.TraderPlanet.com has made a donation of $100 to the American Heart Association on the winner's behalf.

"The sentiment of this contest was especially sweet since it gave us an opportunity to acknowledge the American Heart Association," said Lane J. Mendelsohn, Founder of TraderPlanet.com. "We are already working on our next contest project to premiere in March. We expect this to be very well received by the community as this will be, by far, the best thing we've done yet."
