Christina Pratt, teacher, author, and founder of The Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, OR, and New York, NY, teacher, talks with guest Dr. Edward Tick about "War and the Soul: Healing the Warrior's Wounds" on her radio show "Why Shamanism Now? A Practical Path to Authenticity"

Streaming live on the Voice America Network (http://www.voiceamerica.com) on Wednesday, February 25th at 2 p.m. Pacific time/5 p.m. Eastern time, Dr. Edward Tick joins Christina Pratt to talk about his award-winning book War And The Soul and his groundbreaking work in healing of veterans. Dr. Tick specializes in using psycho-spiritual, cross-cultural, and international reconciliation practices to bring healing to veterans, communities and nations recovering from the traumas of war and violence.

War occurs in an altered state as does the wounding of body and soul. The experiences of war can only be understood from an altered state, and given this, their true healing comes through altered states. The medicinal use of altered states is the realm of the shaman. Says Tick: "We can create reconciliation and restoration practices that directly redress the wounds against life that oppress the veteran… Then the spirits that were loosed during the war--whether of the survivor or the slain--may find peace, meaning, and lifelong alliance. Then the veteran may make the return journey home and the healer too will be transformed."

Christina Pratt is an authentic, non-traditional contemporary shaman. In practice since 1990, she specializes in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible. A teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, Pratt brings the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her well-received book, An Encyclopedia of Shamanism (Rosen), is an 800 page, two-volume set with over 750 in-depth entries that clearly discuss the basic concepts of shamanism, methods, and traditions of over 50 different shamanic peoples. Pratt is the creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.

Dr. Edward Tick is Founding Director and Senior Clinician of Soldier's Heart: Veterans' Safe Return Programs. Honored for his groundbreaking work in the holistic and community-based healing of veterans and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Dr. Tick has been a psychotherapist for 33 years, specializing in working with veterans since the 1970s. He is the author of Sacred Mountain, The Practice Of Dream Healing, The Golden Tortoise, and the award-winning book War And The Soul. As an internationally recognized expert on veterans, PTSD, and the psychology of military-related issues, Dr. Tick has conducted trainings at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and other Department of Defense facilities. He lectures throughout the world and leads semi-annual international educational, healing and reconciliation journeys to Vietnam and Greece. Dr. Tick specializes in using psycho-spiritual, cross-cultural, and international reconciliation practices to bring healing to veterans, communities and nations recovering from the traumas of war and violence.
