LCS Technology Will Allow SEARHC to Better Service 18 Native Tribal Communities

Ashland, OR -- Plexis Healthcare Systems announced recently the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) has implemented its LCS claims processing and benefit administration system. SEARHC is a non-profit tribal health consortium comprised of 18 Tribal communities, serving the health interests of the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and other Native people of Southeast Alaska. Established in 1975, SEARHC is one of the oldest and largest Native-run health organizations in the nation.

Plexis LCS provides SEARHC with a complete claims processing and benefits administration system that is easy-to-use, affordable and flexible enough to grow as the consortium's contract health claims processing needs expand. LCS also provides a quick and easy implementation process. Most clients have their systems up and running in less than sixty days, including data conversion and training. The LCS claims management system requires little to no IT staff, manages a wide range of health care plan designs, and uses familiar Windows and database reporting technology that helped SEARHC easily integrate the system into their existing office platform.

"We were looking for an easy-to-use, economical solution that could be implemented in a short period of time," explained Karen Fredrickson, Contract Health Manager at SEARHC. "We were using an older system that was not meeting our needs. In actuality, we were trained and completely up and running in less than 60 days on LCS. We could not have been more pleased with Plexis' responsiveness and follow through."

"LCS has significantly improved the consortium's contract health claims processing and administration capacity. Operational workflow and reporting capabilities have also been greatly enhanced. Of particular significance is the improved connectivity LCS provides by enabling SEARHC to export non-standard data sets directly to Indian Health Services (IHS)," commented Kathy Hildreth, Director of Plexis' LCS Division.

About SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium
SEARHC was established under the provisions of the Indian Self-Determination Act. The intent of this legislation was to have Indian Health Service (IHS) programs and facilities turned over to tribal management. SEARHC began their contracting with IHS in 1976 when they assumed management of the Community Health Aides Program. In 1982, SEARHC assumed management of the IHS Juneau clinic and in 1986 it assumed management of Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. The consortium's highest priority is responsiveness to the needs of the communities it serves. The tribal governing body in each community has a seat on the SEARHC Board of Directors. The consortium maintains strong ties to its communities, its culture, and to its tribal elders. Wherever possible they incorporate traditional Native culture practices and values into its health care delivery system. For more information, visit
