New Website Brings Forth Affordable Portable GPS Units

These can be taken wherever people want to go, whether it's running, hiking, golfing or for tracking animals.

Thanks to expeditious technology, road maps have becoming a thing of the past. Whether someone is driving across the United States or running in a town they are not familiar with, then portable global positioning system units, or GPS, can come in quite handy.

"For people who travel or go anywhere, really, these handheld GPS devices are very useful," said Maria Pacheco.

Pacheco, along with partner Terrance Hayes, is the co-proprietor of the recently launched, a web store that specializes in affordable, easy-to-carry GPS units.

GPS devices are typically thought to be something that is mounted on the dashboard of an automobile and therefore limited in its usage. According to Pacheco, handheld GPS machines are able to break this stigma.

"What we have on our site is something that can fit into a purse or a pocket," she said. "These can be taken wherever people want to go, whether it's running, hiking, golfing or for tracking animals."

Browsing through the Get Handheld GPS's catalog, a customer is exposed to the various types of GPS units including ones that can help track animals, keep track of weather and are ready for use as soon as they are plugged into a computer.

Since the site's January 2009 launch, Pacheco and Hayes have been working diligently at increasing their stock of items, which will soon include more GPS systems related to golfing and marine life.

The duo has also started a new informational blog ( to run in conjunction with their site. The blog contains several product reviews and factoids about GPS units to assist people find the best unit that will suit their needs and usage.

As the site continues to grow, shift and evolve, one thing that Pacheco is certain of is her dedication to the customers.

"We offer the best customer service, 100 percent," she said. "If there's one thing that we excel in is the fact that we ensure that our customers are going to get the GPS that they will get the most use out of."
