Proceeds from New Book Donated to Send Kids with Cystic Fibrosis to Camp in the New Orleans Area

Author Don Warner is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of his new book, a memoir about the life of his daughter who died from cystic fibrosis related complications in 2003, to send children with cystic fibrosis to Camp Pelican in Louisiana. The promotion runs through the month of March.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 25, 2009 -- As a father who lost a daughter to cystic fibrosis, Don Warner channeled his grief into myriad charitable pursuits. In 2008 the family, along with the director of The Catholic Cemeteries of St. Paul and Minneapolis, dedicated a prayer garden where bereaved parents could memorialize their children in a beautiful and peaceful setting. In 2005, the Angela Warner Foundation and the University of Minnesota created a scholarship in Angie's name.

Now Don has written a book that is a tribute to Angie's short but inspirational life. Through the month of March, the Warner family will generously donate 100% of the profits from the sale of WALKS ON THE BEACH WITH ANGIE (North Star Press; 2008; 978-0-87839-274-2; $30.00) to help send kids in the New Orleans area living with cystic fibrosis to Camp Pelican.

The camp is a weeklong overnight resident camp for children with various pulmonary disorders who would not be able to attend regular summer camp. Camp Pelican offers these children and their families the chance to get informed about their disorders, and more importantly, the chance to create lasting friendships with other kids who are also receiving treatment and learning to live with their disorders.

In WALKS ON THE BEACH WITH ANGIE, Don recalls a family trip to San Antonio where, due to a delay in the delivery of Angie's special equipment, they missed their first cystic fibrosis therapy session in fourteen years. He quips, "Our small family felt carefree in San Antonio, missing therapies for a whole day. We felt somewhat separated from CF for a brief moment." Now Don is making it possible to offer that same feeling to other kids living with the disorder.

"WALKS ON THE BEACH WITH ANGIE is a story of love, hope, anguish, perseverance, grief, searing loss, and transformation." - Richard A. Johnson, Ed.D., Ph.D
