A new film has today been released which exposes many of the myths surrounding the shocking case of Schapelle Corby. Titled "Schapelle Leigh Corby: Myths Busted" the film uses real footage of the unfolding tragedy to illustrate the truth behind a series of media fuelled smears which have caused so much damage to her prospects.
In 2005, Schapelle Corby was sentenced to an unprecedented 20 years in an Indonesian prison cell, for importation of marijuana, following one of the most contentious cases of modern times. To this day she maintains her innocence, with observers and human rights support groups urging her release. A recent film (http://www.schapelle.net/videos.html) cites many of the disturbing aspects of the case, including the refusal of the court to test the drugs for country of origin, the subsequent burning of the untested drugs, and the much lesser value of the drugs in Indonesia than in the country of alleged export, Australia.
SCHAPELLE LEIGH CORBY: MYTHS BUSTED
The film was made by independent film producer, Leann Hoelscher, in California, USA, and follows the media exposure videos produced in the UK. It presents actual legal artifacts, such as 'Certificates of No Disclosable Outcomes' which is used to debunk the unpleasant myth of family involvement in crime.
Rachel James of the Schapelle.Net website states that: "Whereas the UK film, 'Burying the Truth - Burying Schapelle Corby', exposes the process/method used by the Australian media to undermine Ms Corby, this film illustrates many of the specific smears generated as part of that process. It is an outstanding film: brilliant investigative reporting, and a superb production"
Jan Felding, European based music producer and film critic, rates it extremely highly: "This has five stars written all over it. It is one that will really fly on YouTube and across the internet worldwide, and deservedly so."
Ms James, however, expects issues with the Australian media to persist: "Just like the global protest in December, which was the first ever for an Australian citizen in the history of that nation, the Australian public may be denied knowledge or sight of it by the mainstream media there."
She continued "The Australian media have transformed a brutal abuse of human rights and a political sentence into a smear fuelled soap opera. They have also hidden the reality of the Australian government selling Schapelle Corby's human rights to maintain its strategic relationship with Indonesia. This sort of film though demonstrates that an increasing number of people from across the world are becoming aware of this. It is an excellent portrayal of the real events".
