FileTek, Inc., a pioneer developer of high-volume data management and information governance solutions, today announced that version 3.4 of its recently launched Trusted Edge® Information Classification Engine (ICE) now includes support for Symantec Enterprise Vault™ 8.0, an industry-leading email and content archiving product. Trusted Edge ICE is a best practices information governance solution that cost-effectively extends content control and legal hold management to content created and stored at the "edge" of corporate networks - where more than 80% of electronic information originates and resides. By incorporating a comprehensive policy-driven engine, sophisticated classification capability, and auto-tagging and asset-branding technology, Trusted Edge provides a holistic approach to information compliance, content retention and disposition, and legal hold management. Trusted Edge ICE helps organizations address the biggest challenges to implementing a records governance program: enforcing policies across the enterprise and ensuring user adoption.

Enterprise Vault is a highly successful product that enables users to store, manage, and discover unstructured information across the organization. Now, by pushing policy support from Enterprise Vault back to the desktop, Trusted Edge ICE extends Enterprise Vault 8.0 content management policies for all content - not just email - to every workstation, desktop, and laptop in the enterprise.

FileTek provides an easy upgrade path to Trusted Edge ICE for customers using previous Trusted Edge versions, including the User Classification Engine (UCE), a Trusted Edge product subset deployed to numerous corporations and government agencies worldwide. These installations as well as new Enterprise Vault customers can benefit from the full set of Trusted Edge ICE best practices features, including automatic and end-user classification of documents and email, seamless operation for network-connected and offline users, and centralized policy management pushed to the desktop.

Most organizations face significant litigation and compliance risk because they lack policy standards and governance controls for content created at the desktop level. Trusted Edge ICE solves this problem because it extends Enterprise Vault content compliance policies to user workstations and laptops across the enterprise. In addition, Trusted Edge ICE gives Enterprise Vault users more control over content location by automatically federating document and email routing and storage across multiple repositories based on business rules. For example, Trusted Edge can upload content to its designated location in Enterprise Vault and also maintain convenience copies or document shortcuts on user workstations or alternate repository locations such as Microsoft® SharePoint, Open Text™ Livelink®, IBM® DB2 Records Manager, IBM® DB2 Content Manager, and WebDAV. This flexibility facilitates Enterprise Vault integration with other content management system environments.

Trusted Edge provides content disposition and litigation hold policies for content managed by Enterprise Vault and other supported repositories. When repository retention schedules expire, Trusted ICE can dispose of convenience copies on desktops, laptops, and file shares by digitally shredding files in a method that complies with the U. S. Department of Defense Standard 5015. For legal hold, Trusted Edge ICE can lock down desktop files in place to ensure data integrity and maintain a proper custodial chain. For tracking purposes, Trusted Edge embeds each file with a unique asset identifier for forensic authentication, uploads classification metadata with the asset, and stores another copy of asset metadata on the Trusted Edge Administrative Server for use with eDiscovery, forensic, and analytical reporting tools.

"We believe Trusted Edge provides Enterprise Vault customers with a much needed capability and approach that no other vendor offers," remarked Michael Smith, General Manager of the Trusted Edge Products Group. "Enterprise Vault is a highly successful product that enables users to store, manage, and discover unstructured information across the organization. Now, by pushing policy support from Enterprise Vault back to the desktop, Trusted Edge ICE extends Enterprise Vault 8.0 content management policies for all content - not just email - to every workstation, desktop, and laptop in the enterprise." Mr. Smith continued, "Trusted Edge provides Enterprise Vault customers on the "edge" with a solution to govern content for compliance, retention, legal hold, and disposition."
