Turning on a faucet to get a glass of drinking water is something that many people take for granted. Unfortunately, one billion people worldwide do not have this luxury and risk their lives every time they take a drink of water. In order to give the gift of clean drinking water to people around the world, the World Bible Society founded to help donate LifeStraws to the world's needy. Just one $15 donation on gives the gift of fresh, clean water to someone for an entire year, significantly decreasing their risk for contracting a potentially deadly waterborne disease.

Six thousand people die every day due to drinking unsafe water. Unfortunately, many of these deaths are children. Using on-demand purifiers such as the LifeStraw can help prevent these unnecessary deaths. The LifeStraw is a portable water filter that allows individuals to drink straight from water sources such as creeks and rivers. Because many children have an extremely long walk to and from school, they need a way to access water on that walk. The LifeStraw gives children a way to drink water on their long walk home.

Unclean water is rich with potentially deadly diseases. Waterborne diseases include cholera, typhoid, amoebic and bacillary dysentery and other diarrheal diseases. These diseases are caused by ingesting water that contains human or animal excrement with pathogenic bacteria or viruses. Other diseases can be caused by human contact with dirty water, parasites or from the insects that use water as a breeding ground. These diseases include malaria, yellow fever and more. Imagine having to risk contamination with every sip of water. Luckily, the LifeStraw was developed to help fight these dangerous ailments.

As someone sucks water through the LifeStraw, it kills and removes 99.99% of waterborne bacteria, 99% of waterborne viruses, and eliminates particles down to 15 microns; thus turning unsafe water supplies into safe drinking water. The LifeStraw contains a special resin that kills viruses and bacteria on contact. The filtering system inside the straw allows individuals to drink on-demand from any available water source. The special filtering system is designed to last for 700 liters, or about a year's worth of water.

Best of all, the LifeStraw is proven to work! The University of North Carolina, School of Public Health tested the LifeStraw against two of the most common bacterial water diseases, E. coli and E. faecalis. The LifeStraws reduced the bacteria and viruses by about 99% in the 700 liters of water that were tested. As a result, the LifeStraw significantly reduces the exposure to waterborne diseases and in turn reduces the risk of contracting a bacterial or viral waterborne infection.

For less than a nickel a day, you can make a donation that could potentially save someone's life. One $15 donation gives a child the ability to safely access water at any time of the day. StrawsforLife hopes to deliver the gift of clean water, and life, one straw at a time.
