Non-Profit Offers Self-Funded Health Initiative To Municipalities and Corporations

While health care groups pitch low-cost initiatives to legislators, The Foundation for Caregivers is putting a no-cost, self-funding health initiative into the hands of municipalities and corporations. Weigh To Give™, a program developed by the Foundation without government funds, produces measurable health and economic benefits without adding to the economic burden.

Chantilly, VA (PRWEB) March 2, 2009 -- The Foundation For Caregivers is offering community and business leaders an innovative turnkey program, Weigh To Give, to promote health in this time of deficit dollars and bleak budgets. The program can be used to engage an entire community in an online, fun event that makes weight loss a charitable mission. Weigh To Give is available at http://weightogive.org.

"Weigh To Give is a vehicle that can enhance the spirit of cooperation and compassion in a community," per Tim Griswold, founder of the Foundation for Caregivers. "It injects a dose of positivism into a community that says we can take care of our own, our charities, and do something the government can't do for us, lose weight. The Foundation is proud to make this self-funding program available."

Weigh To Give can be used by anyone to promote a healthier lifestyle or as a fundraiser. It is a vendor and charity neutral weight-loss-a-thon designed to engage public sector, private sector, nonprofits, and individuals in weight management while funding community charities.

Weight management largely depends on individual behavior but developers of the system anticipate that most participants in Weigh To Give will pledge to lose ten to fifteen pounds in a sixty or ninety day period. The system will track actual pounds lost to provide a measurable outcome.

"The goals we set for 2009 are conservative. We would like to see two million people lose more than 10 million pounds and raise $50 million for charity in the process. We can easily exceed these numbers if we can get community and corporate leaders on board to harness the power of Weigh to Give."

The Foundation has placed a Fundraising Estimator on the Weigh To Give website that will enable community and business leaders to play 'what if' for their community or organization.

All sponsor dollars for Weigh To Give will be directed to two charities; 75% to the participant's designated charity and 25% to The Foundation for Caregivers. The Foundation will use the proceeds from the Weigh To Give program to fund caregiving organizations and researchers working to ease the physical, financial and emotional burden of America's family caregivers.
