Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 3, 2009
Eduventures, Inc., the leader in research and consulting for colleges and universities, today released a white paper titled Leading in a Recession: A 2009 Higher Education Action Plan which provides guidance to higher education leaders in overcoming the effects of the financial crisis on the nation's colleges and universities. The white paper is available for download at http://www.eduventures.com.
Building on insight drawn from interviews with some of higher education's leading thinkers, the paper outlines strategic considerations for Presidents and Provosts for each season of the school year and provides specific suggestions to help guide colleges and universities through the recession.
Key suggestions in the paper include:
- Over the winter, schools should establish consistent and transparent processes for evaluating degree programs as well as the long-term expectations for all programs on campus
- When spring arrives, higher education leaders need to have a plan in place to proactively reach out to parents of accepted students to discuss the financial resources they have available to finance their child's education
- Over the summer, schools should engage in proactive efforts to reduce student attrition by working with students considered a persistence risk and consider options such as increased online programming or partnerships with local community colleges
- This fall, higher education leaders need to set shared goals for the institution and aggressively collect data to measure progress towards those goals
"There is no doubt that 2009 will be a year fraught with uncertainties," said Peter Stokes, Executive Vice President and Chief Research Officer at Eduventures. "Fortunately, the higher education calendar provides university and college leaders with a structure for anticipating and managing these uncertainties. Building on interviews that Eduventures conducted with higher education experts over the past several months, this paper outlines strategic considerations for university leaders as they navigate key milestones in the spring, summer, and fall academic calendar."
