It is important to identify leaders who are excited about open source software and who have successful track records growing software companies

Acquia, the fast growing company offering commercial support for the Drupal social publishing system, today announced the appointment of Tom Erickson as chief executive officer, as well as the addition of Warren Utt as vice president of sales. Both executives will help to further build Acquia as a leader in the social publishing space and will continue to expand the use of Drupal globally.

"It is important to identify leaders who are excited about open source software and who have successful track records growing software companies," said Acquia co-founder and chief technical officer Dries Buytaert. "Welcoming Tom and Warren on board is a natural progression and a way to solidify Acquia's future as we strive to increase Drupal usage."

Erickson, who is a founding Acquia board director and chairman since October, brings more than 25 years of experience in software products and services. Most recently, he was the CEO of Systinet Corporation, a privately held software company and leader in service oriented architecture that was acquired by Mercury Interactive in 2006. Prior to his role at Systinet, he served as executive vice president, international for webMethods and president, Asia Pacific for the Baan Company.

"I am extremely excited to expand my role and work closely with the Acquia team to expand Drupal usage around the world," said Tom Erickson, Acquia's incoming CEO. "The economic benefit of Drupal combined with support and services from Acquia is very compelling as organizations expand their online communities and businesses."

"Tom has contributed extensively since the beginning of Acquia," said Acquia co-founder Jay Batson. "I'm glad to have him join us as CEO and I look forward to working closely with Tom and Warren to help our customers meet their business objectives on the Web with Drupal."

Acquia's new vice president of sales, Warren Utt, is a technology industry leader with more than 20 years of experience in startup, turnaround, and high growth operations. During his time in the software industry, he has held executive positions with companies in the e-commerce, content management, business process management and enterprise applications markets. Utt most recently served as CEO and president of Impress Software, a privately held company and leading developer of packaged integration applications. Prior to his role at Impress, he served as senior vice president of worldwide field operations at Broadvision.

"Acquia provides a great opportunity to draw on my past experience," said Warren Utt, Acquia's incoming vice president of sales. "I am looking forward to helping customers effectively use open source Drupal with the enterprise support and network services solutions they need to build and operate great websites."

Acquia's founding chief executive officer Jay Batson will continue in an executive management role with the company.
