Russell Thornton's Amber Alert GPS has garnered honors as a top innovative Utah company with its "Amber Alert" GPS technology. It has been named as one of the top 30 innovative companies in Utah.

With this technology, concerned parents no longer have to wonder where their child is. Instead, they slip this small device onto a wrist, ankle, belt, or backpack to know where the child is at all times.

Small size, big results

Amber Alert GPS doesn't just help parents find children, though. Its other features include:

§    SOS Feature

Amber Alert GPS has an "SOS feature" that gives a child the ability to summon help in the event of an emergency. He or she simply has to press the "SOS button" on the top of the device.

This action sends a "help me" text and e-mail to the cell phones of five trusted individuals predetermined by the child's parents. The text message includes physical street address and location of the child on a map. These messages are sent every five minutes until the situation resolves in the child is safe.

Optionally, the "SOS" feature can be disabled if special needs or other children unnecessarily press the SOS button often.

§    Safe Zone feature

Parents can design a "safe zone" or boundary around any area they choose. If the child leaves or is removed from the designated area, parents will receive a "Safe Zone alert." These alerts will continue to come every five minutes by text, e-mail or both. These alerts will help parents track their child by providing a new location every five minutes and therefore giving parents a path to follow until the child is found. It's easy to change or cancel "Safe Zone alerts" in seconds from cell phone or computer.

§    Real-time tracking

Amber Alert GPS doesn't go on "sleep" or "standby mode" as some other GPS devices do. Instead, it maintains real-time tracking for the entire time a child is wearing it. This way, if a child happens to go someplace, like within a tunnel where a GPS device may not register, the child's trail can still be picked up at his or her last known location and can be picked up again once he or she leaves these areas.

§    Speed

For parents with teenagers, Amber Alert GPS tracks both a teenager's speed or those of friends driving, etc. In the event a child goes above the predetermined speed limit set, parents will receive Amber Alert GPS notices by text, e-mail or both.

§    Temperature

Parents can set "hot" and "cold" temperature thresholds for their Amber Alert GPS. That way, if a child is left in a hot car or happens to be in cold temperatures, parents will get text messages by cell phone, e-mail or both if either temperature threshold is exceeded.

§    Other features

Other monitoring alerts include "breadcrumbing," "low battery" alerts or "lost unit" page commands. The unit is also water resistant.

Other honors and awards

The Amber Alert GPS received a four out of five star rating by GPS Magazine.
