Musician's Friend is thrilled to have collaborated with Gretsch Drums, Zildjian, and Gibraltar on this exciting project. We are all honored to help Music For Relief in their important work of rebuilding devastated areas around the world
Medford, OR (PRWEB) March 6, 2009
Music-industry partners Musician's Friend, Gretsch Drums, Gibraltar Hardware, and Zildjian recently donated $4,640 from the sale of a Gretsch Catalina Club Drum Set to Music for Relief, a charity dedicated to disaster recovery and environmental protection. Played onstage by Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon at the 2007 MTV Music Awards, the Gretsch drum kit was signed by all his bandmates after the show.
Music for Relief was founded by the two-time Grammy Award-winning group Linkin Park, whose members include Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn, Chester Bennington, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell, and Rob Bourdon. Originally established to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, the charity has raised over $2.5 million since its inception in 2005. Funds have gone toward victims of Katrina and Rita, a 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, California wildfires of October 2007, and Cyclone Sidr in Bangladesh. The charity has also helped plant over 355,000 trees to help reduce global warming.
The Gretsch Catalina Club Drum Set was purchased by Linkin Park fan Matthew Pieschel of Kentucky. Instead of planning to play the drum set, he has chosen to keep it in mint condition by displaying it in his home. Commenting on his purchase, Pieschel said, "I'm really excited to add this drum kit to my Linkin Park collection. I bought it because I liked the idea of owning something totally unique, that no one else had." Peischel describes himself as an "extremely huge fan" of Linkin Park. He went on to say, "I was hooked from the first time I heard their single 'One Step Closer.' Linkin Park kept churning out amazing songs; their music videos rock, and I love the way they involve fans in their live shows; it feels personal. What do I like most about them? Everything."
Commenting on the donation, Whitney Showler, Operations Director for Music For Relief said, "Music for Relief is honored to receive proceeds from the donated drum set from Musician's Friend, Gretsch Drums, Zildjian, and Gibraltar and we extend our gratitude to the customer who purchased the set. Funds raised through this auction will benefit Music for Relief's ongoing disaster recovery and environmental efforts."
Pieschel's kit includes the Gretsch Catalina Club Mod Drum Set with Linkin Park's logo on the bass drum, three Gibraltar Double-Braced Boom Stands, a Gibraltar Pro Snare Stand, Gibraltar Hi-Hat Stand, Gibraltar Avenger II Pedal, Gibraltar Pro Throne, and a Zildjian A Custom Cymbal Set that includes a ride and two crash cymbals, and hi-hats.
"Musician's Friend is thrilled to have collaborated with Gretsch Drums, Zildjian, and Gibraltar on this exciting project. We are all honored to help Music For Relief in their important work of rebuilding devastated areas around the world," commented Senior Drum Buyer for Musician's Friend, Randy Pratt.
The drum kit can be see in action during Linkin Park's Performance at 2007 MTV Music Awards, where the band played "Bleed It Out," a song that won Best International Video in the 2008 Much Music Awards.
Among Linkin Park's long list of awards are two Grammys for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song "Crawling" in 2002 and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for the song "Numb/Encore" in 2006. Linkin Park has earned four MTV Video Music Awards from its 13 nominations that have included a Viewer's Choice Award for the song "Breaking the Habit" in 2003 and Best Rock Video for the song "Shadow of the Day" in 2008. Today, Linkin Park continues to tour, churn out chart-toppers, and carry on the work of Music for Relief.
