On March 14, 2009, Westbeth Gallery opens the exhibition of GREG KESSLER PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS: A RETROSPECTIVE ON FIGURES AND MYTHS, featuring over 30 paintings by the artist Greg Kessler. It focuses on the artist's work over the past decade. The exhibition will be on view until April 5.
Kessler is an abstract painter who draws figures. He creates mythological characters, weaving the historical with the contemporary. Kessler's work is figurative with bold color and complex backgrounds. His art is expressionistic, gestural and cartoony.
His influences include late Picasso and Jackson Pollock.
ABOUT GREG KESSLER
Greg Kessler holds an MFA from Yale and a BFA from Carnegie Mellon. He has been painting in New York City since 1990. Kessler has had one-person shows in New York, Washington, DC, and Texas and group shows at Columbia University, American University and in Austria.
