The Levinson Institute Offers Successful Restructuring Lessons

Restructuring is commonplace at almost every organization today and yet so few managers and executives know anything about how to properly restructure companies, with disastrous results. The Levinson Institute offers in-depth seminars, consulting and software to effectively, properly and rapidly restructure organizations in response to massive organizational changes, such as mass layoffs or mergers and acquisitions.

Jaffrey, NH (PRWEB) March 9, 2009 -- Business organizations are currently carrying out layoffs and undergoing unprecedented changes as they look to shed costs and adapt to harsh economic realities. Unfortunately, the majority of organizational leaders have no expertise in restructuring, and historically their slash-and-burn efforts lead to crash-and-burn results.

"It's not surprising that the vast majority of reorganizations fail--especially when companies are undergoing massive layoffs and wholesale downsizing," says David Jackson, COO of the Levinson Institute. "The symptoms of indecision, poor communications, and lack of morale result from a misunderstanding of the underlying dynamics of organizational design. These symptoms are typically exacerbated during economic downturns."

Learning the principles of organization design and following a tried and tested restructuring process can alleviate many of these problems. Jackson suggests organizations:

a) Make it a priority to get the accountable person(s) educated on organization design and restructuring;
b) Design alternative organizational structures and requisite roles to deliver on their organization's new strategy and choose the optimal structure;
c) Take an inventory of all people in the organization;
d) Collectively decide who is the best person(s) for each role;
e) Transition to the new structure and monitor carefully
f) Over-communicate. Buy in at all levels is critical for success.

According to Jackson, "Leadership in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression requires far more than strong personal skills. It requires knowledge and ability in leading change, and aligning leadership systems, structure, and processes with strategy."

The Levinson Institute offers training, software and consulting on restructuring. Their next training session, Strategic Organization is in Boston, May 31-June 5. The training can also be held on-site at your company. Their Sonario® software has a restructuring module which is delivered as a software-as-a-service (SAAS). Organizations can be using the product in days and simply need an internet browser to access the service. The software is backed by a comprehensive training course on restructuring techniques.
