Hair Club for Men and Women offers competitive educational scholarship opportunities for the children of its corporate and franchise employees. The winners of four (4) individual $2,000 scholarships were announced on January 17, 2009.

In 2004, Hair Club, an innovator in hair loss treatment, proudly established The Pedro Baez Scholarship Fund to support deserving young students in their pursuit of academic excellence.

Pedro Baez was the co-owner of the Hair Club franchise in Puerto Rico, and was an accomplished tennis, soccer and volleyball player who was accepted into college on an athletic scholarship. Mr. Baez passed away when he was only 30 years old, after years of struggling with an incurable heart disease. Despite his short time with Hair Club, Pedro accomplished many things in his life and was a loving husband and father, as well as a successful businessman.

Scholarship program applicants had to have maintained a minimum 2.5 GPA or better in their current school at either the high school or college level, and had to demonstrate an established track record of extra-curricular activities, including volunteer work. Every submission included a 500+ word essay as to why each individual felt deserving of this honor. Submissions were reviewed and judged by a panel of three corporate office management staff.

"We received an unprecedented number of applicants this year, which may be an indicator of the tough economic times we are facing," said Michele Graves, VP of Human Resources, who administers the scholarship competition.

The winners are: Lauren Miller, age 18, of Florida; Deonna Gould, age 19, of New York; Laura Crawford, age 19, of Ohio; and Lindsay Artis, age 21, of Iowa.

Hair Club is very proud of the accomplishments of these talented students and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.

Hair Club is the largest company in the hair restoration and hair replacement industry, with more than 95 locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The company was founded in 1976 by Sy Sperling, known by the trademark phrase "I'm not just the president, I'm also a client." For more information visit http://www.hairclub.com.
