San Francisco design store and gallery, Rare Device, is proud to present The Optimistic Life & Mind: New Work by Mark Warren Jacques (markwarrenjacques.com). His work will occupy the Rare Device gallery April 3, 2009 - April 29, 2009. A reception for the artist will be held Friday, April 3 from 7 - 9 pm. The artist will be present for the opening.

According to Jacques, The Optimistic Life & Mind is about "the energy to love and to question, and to create, and to try and stay connected to the earth, to myself, to my friends, to my lover, and to the optimistic life and mind." This new body of work, which will include 11 of his brightly colored, highly graphic and painstakingly detailed paintings (along with a wall mural), is a testament to Jacques' sense of order within disorder and an acute presence of mind for such a young artist. "I have no idea what any of us are doing here, how we got here, or where we are all going later," says Jacques. "Some days I try to imagine I know where I am right now. On those days if I am painting, or thing making, like all the other folks who create and guess to explain, I am happy. On the other hand I love the energy that is not knowing too. I thrive on that energy to keep living happily." Those who know Jacques can testify to the strength of his convictions and orientation to life which flows through his work. "Mark Warren Jacques lives within a web of art makers, musicians, skateboarders, and backyard revolutionaries. This close-knit community thrives on representing a sort of whimsy that harnesses the energy of idealism and is rooted in earthy spirituality," writes Leslie Miller of Fontanelle Gallery. "Lest you conclude that he lives in a world of naïvete, Jacques will surprise you with his gusto to love, question, and commit himself to the realities of hard work, ambition, and responsibility to his community."

Mark Warren Jacques studied art at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, OH. He is a member of the Together Gallery collective in Portland's Alberta Arts District and has upcoming solo
exhibitions in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland as well as group exhibitions in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
