Midbrook Introduces ATP Cleanliness Testing

Midbrook, Inc., a Jackson, MI based company, is improving their cleanliness testing capabilities through the use of ATP Testing. Utilizing a quick, swab testing process, Midbrook is able to analyze surfaces and detect the presence of bacteria and cellular matter. Midbrook ATP Testing takes only minutes and returns results that can verify whether or not a cleaning procedure was effective.

Jackson, MI (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 9, 2009 -- Midbrook, Inc. has recently expanded their cleanliness testing capabilities to include ATP Testing, a form of testing that can be utilized in a variety of different fields including the medical arena.

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the chemical substance that powers reactions within cells. ATP is present in all life forms except viruses and prions. Viruses require living cells to survive, however, so their presence can be indirectly detected through ATP testing.

Midbrook ATP testing is conducted by swabbing the surface of the potentially contaminated surface. Using a handheld unit, the user swabs the surface and then places the swab into the unit to receive their results. The results are given in terms of RLU (Relative Light Units) which indicate the amount of ATP on the surface.

Midbrook will help implement ATP standards for various surfaces in the facility. Different levels of contamination are acceptable for different surfaces depending upon their intended use. For example, a hospital public area may be considered clean with a RLU reading up to 150, whereas a sterile area in the same hospital may fail at a reading of 10 RLU.

The quick testing offered by the swab method is ideal because of these different standards. Because the testing is quick and simple to perform, personnel can regularly test multiple areas with multiple thresholds for cleanliness required. This regular testing helps ensure that the hospital environment remains clean, as well as providing a standard by which to judge the cleaning processes used throughout the facility.

Midbrook can provide the testing equipment as well as introductory training with the tests. From there, the Midbrook Technology Center can analyze results from testing and provide cleanliness recommendations if necessary; including new processes or equipment that can remedy unsatisfactory results from the test.
