Billings Public Schools Trustees, which serves 15,500 students, chose Bresnan Business Services to fulfill a five-year contract to provide an IP Hosted phone service. This service will provide Billings Public Schools a network based "smart" telecommunications system with centralized intelligence that will allow the District to integrate multiple locations into a unified communications system that is customizable right down to the dialing plan. This solution provides for ongoing system upgrades and unlimited growth, which in turn provides a service that is constantly and seamlessly up to date with the most current technologies. Bresnan's (IP) Hosted phone service will ride seamlessly over the top of Billings Public Schools Fiber Optic Wide Area Network also provided by Bresnan. The new contract will start on July 1, 2009, and will allow the Billings Public Schools to maximize the full benefits of the Federal E-rate program.
"After identifying our needs, a move to Bresnan's Hosted IP phone service made perfect sense for our district," said Karen Palmer, Director of Technology. "Our number one priority is improved student safety and this system definitely provides that. We love the ability to centrally manage the system through an easy, elegant web-based interface, and our users love the flexibility and features this system provides. Best of all, by eliminating the need to invest in, own and maintain costly equipment, we are gaining all of these benefits while reducing our expenses." She continued, "It comes complete with a web-based management tool that is intuitive and easy to use and will allow the school district to manage system configuration and calling features from virtually any desktop, anywhere in the world. The service required a minimal upfront capital investment and a manageable monthly recurring cost that actually lowers the Districts overall communications expenses."
The Federal E-Rate program is funded by the Universal Services Fund, which is administered by the Federal Communications Commission. The purpose of the program is to ensure that schools and libraries across the country receive state of the art telecom services.
"We are pleased that Billings Public Schools recognized the value of our advanced network and look forward to upgrading their telecom services quickly," said Ted White, Regional Vice President of Bresnan Business Services. "Our goal is to offer the most advanced and reliable services available in our markets at the best possible value, and I can't think of a better way to demonstrate that than increasing the services at the Billings School Districts while lowering their expenses."
