We are a wood products company dedicated to providing the homeowner, contractor or architect with hand split stock or custom cut to specification

As thoughts turn to Spring, warmer weather and the prospects of replacing your old fence or building a new Cedar Fence come to mind, until now anyway; there were not to many options to choose from.
Larry Harris of Western Cedar Fence Busters has reconstructed the diminished and forgotten practice of producing Grapestake Fencing, Fence Posts and Fence Rails the Old Fashioned Way and that is to "Hand Split" the fencing products using the Old Mallet and Froe Tools from the 1920's and 1930's.
Customers say, "Until now I didn't realize there was someone out there still making the Grapestake Fencing." In general consumers are becoming more and more individualists in their ideas and often look to do something that makes themselves and their property a little more unique and different from that of their neighbors. Putting up a Hand Split Grapestake Fence around their home or property really does make a bold and unique statement and with the appeal of the rustic old world charm a lot of people are seeking these days.
Western Cedar Fence Busters' number one objective is to give customers what they want and to dispel the illusion that this is what they have to take which what you get in some lumber stores. "Many of our customers are looking for something custom cut to specifications of their own. As an example we do a lot of fence restorations for Historical Designated Homes so in order to keep their historical designation, even repairs or replacements of fencing have to be same specs as the original. Everyone's needs are different, so we have the ability to cut wide boards, narrow boards, thick or thin. Pretty much, we are open to producing anything they want."
There is another growing part of their business which is Architects and Contractors who are using "Hand Split" products for indoor application on ceilings, walls and not just fences.
There are some stock materials, Western Cedar Fence Busters specializes in:

"HAND SPLIT" CEDAR FENCE RAILS

8-Foot Length with 3 to 4 inch facing
10-Foot Length with 3 to 4 inch facing
According to Larry, they try to keep as much of this stock inventory on hand as possible however as more and more people are discovering that someone actually still does this and does it year around, it sometimes is difficult to have inventory always on hand especially for the big projects but with logs coming into the mill daily, there is always logs to cut and fill orders.
Western Cedar Fence Busters is expanding their capabilities to new markets. Traditional hand split fence boards have irregular sides, and irregular front and back so there are obvious gaps in between the boards when applied to a fence. For those who want the boards to sit flush together with no gaps they now offer that "Hand Split" only look with straight sides. This is done using custom molding heads and run through a molding machine giving you that nice Hand Split look. This is great for outdoor fence application or interior application.
