Greenleaf Book Group Announces a "Lay-On" Initiative to Counter the National Layoff Epidemic

Greenleaf Book Group, an independent book publisher and distributor, has announced a lay-on initiative to counter the layoff epidemic hitting most major publishers and countless companies nationwide. Employees are stepping up and contributing an extra hour of work per day, increasing productivity and decreasing hiring needs. This proactive strategy empowers the staff - the company's greatest resource.

We at GBG recognize that people are our most valuable asset. Why cut our greatest resource when we need it most? Even though everyone is doing it, it's still crazy! It's because of the dedication and performance of our employees that we have been able to stay profitable even during this tough financial time

The independent book publishing and distribution company Greenleaf Book Group, LLC has already made significant changes to their daily procedures in hopes of softening the current economic blow: reducing waste, executing stricter recycling programs, and cutting down on unnecessary costs. However, there is one current corporate trend that is not on GBG's agenda anytime soon: employee lay-offs.

To combat the lay-off epidemic that has already infiltrated most of the big six publishers and countless companies nationwide, the employees of GBG are stepping up to the plate … or more appropriately, to the time clock. The company recently implemented what has been deemed a "lay-on" where every employee has committed to work one extra hour a day. To be applied immediately, the additional volunteer hour is the equivalent of hiring four new employees.

"We at GBG recognize that people are our most valuable asset. Why cut our greatest resource when we need it most? Even though everyone is doing it, it's still crazy! It's because of the dedication and performance of our employees that we have been able to stay profitable even during this tough financial time," CEO Clint Greenleaf said. "While we aren't in crisis mode, this 'lay-on' plan will help us build our reserves even if the industry crumbles around us. It's critical that everyone at the company is protected from the economy as much as possible."
