Scala-Powered Retail and Movie Theater Installations Earn Honors at DSE

The Digital Signage Expo Recognizes Scala's Sprint and SF Bio Projects as Apex Award Winners

Exton, PA (PRWEB) March 12, 2009 -- The 2009 Apex Awards, which were announced at the Digital Signage Expo on February 25, recognized Sprint Studio Store and Swedish movie theater chain SF Bio for innovations in retail and hospitality installations, respectively. Scala software drives the content development and management for both of these projects.

The Sprint Studio Store project (Kansas City, Mo.) provides shoppers with a dynamic and interactive shopping experience through the use of video, audio and special effects lighting. Hammond Communications Group, IBM and Level 5 Media Group, a Scala Partner, collaborated on the installation. Scala was awarded the Apex for its creation of a multiple-zone application that is programmable to feature individual messages by store zone or synchronize messages across the store's 17 screens.

SF Bio the largest movie theater chain in Sweden, worked with Scala Partner Zone Systems to develop a digital signage network in eight movie theaters that consists of digital menu boards, dynamic movie posters, and screens for previewing film trailers. SF Bio uses the network to cut costs associated with creating, printing and transporting menus and posters. They also realized that attention-grabbing and dynamic content would translate into more sales for the movie theaters. Scala's software provides content development and management for all of the screens based on site-specific requirements.

"It's always an honor to be recognized, but to receive awards in the retail and hospitality categories for two very different types of installations is especially exciting," said Andrea Waldin, Scala's Vice President of Marketing. "Scala's main goal is to help customers develop the most usable and flexible digital signage networks possible, and in the cases of Sprint and SF Bio, we've met those objectives."
