New York Safety Net, a website of information and resources for the citizens of New York, has released a new program in its series "Spotlight on Aging and the Elderly" featuring interviews with Nurse Katherine O'Brien. The segments with Ms. O'Brien are titled "A Nurse's Advice for Avoiding Elder Neglect in Nursing Homes". Ms. O'Brien has extensive experience assisting the elderly in nursing homes. She is interviewed by attorney Deborah Truhowsky of the law firm Schwartzapfel Truhowsky Marcus in New York regarding how to identify potential physical and emotional problems for the elderly residents of nursing homes in New York. In the first installment, Ms. O'Brien discusses how to identify physical problems such as pressure sores in residents of nursing homes. In certain cases, residents are unable to physically move and must be taken care of by facility staff. Ms. O'Brien provides practical and compassionate advice for the family and friends of elder residents.
