"Transforming your Community Through Dance" is a personal journey through author Adrian Flores' passion for dance and service. Dance healed Flores and it became his life's mission to teach others.
Dance is experiencing growing popularity in popular culture. Television shows Dancing with the Stars and Mad Hot Ballroom are evidence. Most people don't realize how powerful dance is. It can increase effectiveness at work, improve marriages, parenting, and other relationships. That's because dancing is more than a way to have fun or a hobby; it's a form of partnership.
Rather than looking at dance through a dancer's eyes, the book explores dance as form of building social skills in youth and relationships all of types. Our communities and families are disconnected and fragmented - we are lonely and isolated. The family values that were once common are not emphasized or modeled to youth.
"The integrity of our cities and our country needs to be restored. Surprisingly, dance can help. It can fend off the loneliness that most of us feel in life, teach values, and reinforce roles. It can build confidence in and acknowledge our youth," said Flores.
Flores introduces 13 Steps for dance teams. "Using 13 Steps to a Great Dance Team to institutionalize a supportive language to the already transforming powers of dance that make us comfortable with each other. We evolve as a people with the addition of these 13 Steps. They will actually help people get closer and have more respect for your partners," said Flores
This book is a guide to empower youth and neighborhoods to embrace dance as a teacher of values, strengthening social skills, and transforming communities. "If everyone danced, we would have safe communities because we will all have this outlet of fun we can do together. We will know how to treat each other and we will all know what to do when the music starts," says Flores.
The book can be used as a reference guide to transform any city. It can also be used as reference material for any parent to develop teams in the home, or for bosses to create strong teams with their employees. Most of all it's a format for making strong friendships and finding a way to relate to people in our community in a fun and safe way.
