Though it's been practiced for centuries, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture still remains a mystery to many Westerners. To clear up any misguided information, acupuncturist, Christina Bacigalupo, launched a website and blog to coincide with her business, Sunset Hills Acupuncture.

We're past the days where people in Los Angeles will walk in off the street and make an appointment

The notion of acupuncture that is implanted in minds of most Westerners conjures up images of an archaic voodoo practice; but in actuality, it is a holistic medical practice that has been used for centuries due to its extreme effectiveness. The misconceptions have been eroding away in years past and the convergence of heightened American interest and the availability of local practices are highlighted in independent businesses such as the California-based Sunset Hills Acupuncture.

Christina Bacigalupo, the proprietor of Sunset Hills Acupuncture, holds a Master's degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Emperor's College in Santa Monica and has been practicing for several years prior to becoming an independent business owner.

"I specialize primarily in women's health and fertility, pain management and weight loss," said Bacigalupo.

Bacigalupo's new website, http://www.SunsetHillsAcupuncture.com, goes into detail regarding her work with traditional Chinese medicine and her experience with pain relief and management.

The website itself is a user-friendly portal which has a host of information about Chinese medicine and the services that Sunset Hills specializes in; it also allows appointments to be booked directly on the site.

In addition, Bacigalupo has launched a blog (http://www.AcupunctureAndWellnessTherapy.com) to coincide with her Sunset Hills website.

"This is still a Western-minded culture," said explained Bacigalupo. "I want to highlight the research that shows the clear effectiveness of acupuncture and Eastern herbal therapies in Western medical terms. I'm hoping that this will convince people that Eastern practices are certainly valid. It's important to bring this information to the public eye."

Despite stereotypes and misgivings, however, Bacigalupo assures people that both Chinese medicine and her methods of therapy are, indeed, the real thing.

"We're past the days where people in Los Angeles will walk in off the street and make an appointment," she said. "People are researching online first and I'm ensuring that I'm able to showcase the services of Sunset Hills Acupuncture as best as I can."
