Estate planning addresses many life issues such as who will make health care decisions for you should you become disabled; who will pay your bills when you're incapacitated and often most importantly, who will care for your minor

Antelope Valley estate planning law firm Thompson Von Tungeln discusses why everyone should have an estate plan, no matter the size of the estate.
According to Antelope Valley estate planning lawyer Kevin Von Tungeln, every citizen in California should have an estate plan because there are more issues to consider than just who will get your estate.
"Estate planning addresses many life issues such as who will make health care decisions for you should you become disabled; who will pay your bills when you're incapacitated and often most importantly, who will care for your minor," said Von Tungeln, partner at Thompson Von Tungeln.
Von Tungeln added that those with large estates must address a whole range of issues, including ways to preserve the estate for your beneficiaries; reducing or postponing the amount of estate tax payable at death; and helping your children keep what they inherit.
For those with smaller estates, the issues include who should receive your assets after your death; who will manage that distribution and who will pay your last debts; and how to do this at the least possible cost.
"In the end," said Von Tungeln, "having an estate plan in place gives you greater control over what happens to your assets, to your minor children, after your death. With smaller estates, avoiding probate can be even more critical in smaller estates than in larger estates due to the high cost of probate."
