We are thrilled to be the Indonesian content partner for buUuk. Ever since I saw an early version last year we've been building up a database of content for Indonesia
Singapore and Jakarta (PRWEB) March 17, 2009
iPhone users can now find hundreds of restaurants in Jakarta, Bali and Surabaya with the launch of Indonesia's first comprehensive mobile dining guide.
iPhone application developers buUuk Pte Ltd and Equinox Apps today announced they have added 800 geocoded restaurants in Indonesia to buUuk, joining over 4,500 Singapore restaurants to make the iPhone application Asia's most comprehensive resource for locating restaurants and nightspots.
"We are thrilled to be the Indonesian content partner for buUuk. Ever since I saw an early version last year we've been building up a database of content for Indonesia," says Mark Hanusz, founder of Equinox Apps in Jakarta. "It is quickly becoming the Facebook of food."
Users download the free application from the iTunes store which will then detect what city they're in, and tell them what restaurants and nightspots are nearby. They can bookmark favorite spots, review outlets and join online discussion forums. If they move city, buUuk will detect the shift and ask if they want to make it their new location.
"This was really our vision from the beginning," says buUuk co-founder Jon Petersen. "Users should be able to use buUuk wherever they are. They don't want to mess around with lots of different applications and settings."
buUuk is one of Asia's most popular iPhone apps. It has been downloaded more than 32,000 times and Jon says they are "very happy" with usage levels. He explains, "Depending on the day of the week, between 10 percent and 20 percent of our users visit the site at least once during the day.
The iPhone is due to be officially launched by Telkomsel on March 20, 2009. Indonesia has developed a reputation for early and enthusiastic adopters of new technology and the iPhone is no exception. There are already more than an estimated 100,000 unofficial iPhone users in the country, according to industry sources, and that number is expected to surge after the launch.
"We expect usage to increase dramatically after the Indonesian launch of iPhone 3G on Friday March 20 at Pacific Place in South Jakarta," says Jon Petersen. "Until now, there has been no comprehensive mobile dining guide for Indonesian cities and we think Indonesian iPhone users will become avid users of buUuk's social networking features to share their dining experiences with their friends".
buUuk is also completely integrated with another free application, TransJakarta, which enables users to see all the restaurants and bars surrounding each of Jakarta's 140 bus stops.
