Government Agencies Maximizing Employee Productivity and Bandwidth with SpectorSoft Internet Monitoring Solution

Some municipalities realizing up to 25% increase in employee productivity.

Vero Beach, FL (PRWEB) March 18, 2009 -- SpectorSoft Corporation, the worldwide leader in Internet monitoring and surveillance software, announced today that government agencies and municipalities are increasingly relying on its award-winning software to maximize productivity and bandwidth.

Faced with shrinking budgets and increased scrutiny in today's tough economy, many organizations are looking for ways to save infrastructure costs as well as to identify productivity killers. SpectorSoft's technology allows these organizations to record and monitor detailed data points such as web sites visited, emails sent and received, chats and instant messages, keystrokes types, files transferred, documents printed, and applications run in order to analyze and adjust behaviors and workflow, as necessary, to save valuable resources.

For the city of Crete, Nebraska, a municipality of 6,000 residents, remedying employee productivity and bandwidth issues were the primary driving forces behind its implementation of Spector 360 on all of its 50 workstations. Given the shared Internet connection at its government offices, Crete officials knew it needed a solution to monitor employees' activities to ensure that all Internet activity was strictly for business purposes.

"Inappropriate communication and non-business usage can significantly reduce our available bandwidth," said Tom Ourada, public works director in charge of IT and security for the City of Crete. "Reduced bandwidth not only affects other employees that are trying to access it for business purposes but also results in lost productivity across the board."

Since implementing Spector 360, Crete realized an almost-immediate return on its investment within the first few months, increasing employee productivity over 25% in some cases. According to Ourada, "We rarely have to review employee activities as everyone is aware of the technology and habits have changed."

Other government agencies such as the Florida Commission on Human Relations and Cibola County, New Mexico have also felt increased pressure to streamline costs and maximize infrastructure investments. Both organizations turned to Spector 360 to increase productivity and decrease bandwidth constraints.

Fredrick Smith, MIS Manager who oversees a network of approximately 130 workstations, including remote laptops, for the Florida Commission on Human Relations observes that, "There was a management perception of low productivity and there was a suspicion that it was based on Internet misuse. We wanted to ensure that employees were not abusing or misusing computer systems in our office and the use of Spector 360 fell right in place with our written policy."

Cibola County's government offices consist of three facilities whose network includes nine servers and approximately 75 workstations. "Not only has Spector 360 acted as a great deterrent, but it has helped us discover other activities that really should not be going on," according to Norman Ratliff, Information Director. "The bulk of what we find with Spector 360 is related to Internet radio and bandwidth. Since implementing this solution, there's not nearly as much bandwidth abuse now, but we have to keep after them about that. Once we speak to them about it, some back-off the activity, but pretty soon they're streaming again. In fact, we recently drafted a memo addressing streaming music, YouTube, and gaming."
