WebAward.org - The Web Marketing Association, host of leading web site awards competition WebAwards, released the 2009 Internet Standards Assessment Report (ISAR) to help the retail industry learn to create more effective and engaging web sites.
"As the standard of excellence for web sites continues to increase, consumers (and WebAward judges) are increasingly picky about what they consider to be an effective web site," said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association, Inc. "Retailers are leaders in the use of Websites to both generate online sales and drive traffic to brick and mortar outlets. It is expected that they will be on the leading edge of mobile Web marketing as well."
The WebAwards competition judges retail web sites on seven criteria that combined create award-winning web sites:
- Ease of use
Retail Websites have historically been above average performers in the ISAR index. They had one year of below average performance (1999) and three years of matched performance (1997, 2004 & 2007). All other years, they have outperformed the index. Restaurant Web sites have exceeded the 5-year criteria benchmark in design and ease of use. It has matched the benchmark in interactivity and copywriting. It narrowly missed the benchmark in innovation and technology. These sites scored highest in design and content and lowest in innovation.
