The Women In Film Foundation today announced that Netflix, the world's largest online movie rental service, has come on board as a key partner to the Foundation's Film Finishing Fund. The Women In Film Foundation's Film Finishing Fund (WIFF FFF) supports films by, for and about women by providing cash grants and in-kind donations to independent filmmakers to help complete and debut their work. Netflix will support the Film Finishing Fund by offering additional funding, distribution, mentorship and guidance to grant recipients.
To date, the program, which has provided grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, has awarded more than $2 million in cash and in-kind aid through support from Women In Film and companies such as Netflix. Most recently, one of the films the FFF supported, "Freeheld," won the 2008 Academy Award® for Best Documentary Short.
"We are gratified by Netflix's support of WIFF's mission to help aspiring filmmakers achieve their highest potential in the marketplace," said Sharon Lawrence, Chair of Women In Film Foundation. "Beyond the financial support for our Film Finishing Fund, this partnership signifies the value an industry leader like Netflix places on our goals of supporting the vision of independent filmmakers."

With 23 years of history, the WIFF Film Finishing Fund has maintained a record of great success. Many of the recipients have screened and received awards at festivals worldwide including Sundance, San Francisco, Chicago, Vancouver, Toronto, Berlin, Montreal, and Avignon and have won major awards including Emmy Awards® and Academy Awards.
In addition, the FFF today announced that filmmakers interested in submitting works can apply for the 2009 grant cycle as of March 2, 2009. Accepting applications worldwide, the FFF accepts films of any length, be it documentary, narrative or animated. Filmmakers must have at least a rough cut available for submission. All applications must be submitted to the Foundation prior to April 24th in order to be considered for the next round of grants, awarded in late July 2009.
