I wanted to have something that would encompass the full-on experience of raising a child

When it's time for people to start shopping for newborns and babies, it can be an explosion of confusion in trying to find the most appropriate and safest items that will work best for the child. With so many new products that come out on a weekly basis, it can be difficult to find which one would work best. Thankfully, Lisa Irving does all the research for caretakers and parents and all they have to do is log on to her website.

Irving is the proprietor of, a web-based store that specializes in baby clothes, baby bedding, nursery décor, baby toys and a host of other infant and children's products.

"We have a pretty good selection for a newer site," explained Irving, who launched the store in January 2009. "Why we decided to do this website is a two-fold reasoning: one is to get a one-stop shop out to parents and the other is to share the information about raising children with them."

The sharing of information is through Baby Boutique Today's weblog,, an up-to-date online journal where Irving reviews products based on a child's age and addresses general issues such as teething, development and stories on up-and-coming products.

"I wanted to have something that would encompass the full-on experience of raising a child," she said.

Irving is no stranger to raising kids. A mother twice over, she now has a granddaughter and in the years since her own children have become adults, Irving admits that part of being a grandparent is rediscovering the precociousness of a child, as well as discovering the contemporary factors of being a parent in the 21st century.

"There are a lot of things out there now that my sons didn't have when they were growing up," she said, "so we're able to test and try out all these gadgets and toys together. I'm not going to recommend something that doesn't work."

These sentiments are laid out on the blog which Irving calls a "two-way street of communication with questions, answers and suggestions" between herself and the parents and grandparents who post in the comments section.

Still, with all the various products on the market, it's reassuring to know that a site like exists, if only to help new parents know the difference between a potty chair and a portable high chair.
