Rialto Advises Job Seekers: 'Don't Just Apply for Vacant Positions'

Job seekers are being advised by a leading HR Consultancy to go against the grain and not only apply for vacant positions but actively seek out new job roles too, after revealing that 70% of their candidates secure jobs that were not publicly advertised.

London, UK (PRWEB) March 19, 2009 -- Following reports that there is an average of ten jobseekers for every vacancy advertised in UK jobcentres, Richard Chiumento, MD of Rialto Consultancy, is urging those looking for work to go against the tide. Instead of only applying for available positions, they should also work out what problem they can solve for an organisation and then market themselves accordingly.

Chiumento says:

"Successful job search occurs when there is less competition, so my advice for many years has been to not follow the herd, but instead to focus on standing out as an individual. Every vacancy is in fact a problem that the organisation needs to solve. Candidates need to therefore take a step back, think of themselves as a service that solves a particular problem for an organisation, and then approach them directly about how they can solve that problem."

Chiumento, who has over twenty years experience in outplacement, claims that 70% of Rialto's candidates secure jobs which were not advertised in the public domain, and that 62% of jobs secured were actually shaped around the candidate and the specific skills they could bring to the organisation.
"If you can relieve a specific pain for an organisation, they will see the value you can bring and make budget available to employ you. This approach is applicable to all types of workers, from the boardroom right though to the shop floor, but most job seekers aren't used to this way of thinking.

Freelancers and consultants tend to think this way as they are used to selling themselves as a solution. Successful job seekers will undoubtedly be those who are able to view themselves more like a micro-business, looking for problems that they are best placed to solve" says Chiumento.
