San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 18, 2009
Eduify™, provider of web-based solutions for students that help them research faster, write better and receive help on-demand, today announced the launch of its new online writing help platform designed for high school and college students. Everyday, more than 32 million students in the US struggle with writing assignments because they lack the technology and expertise to succeed. Nearly 4 out of 5 US high school students are not proficient--let alone advanced--writers according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Eduify is here to help.
Eduify is like a writing coach that is always by your side. The service provides online applications to edit and store documents, capture and discover research, find writing tutorials and models, safeguard against plagiarism and receive expert writing coaching on demand. Eduify's service integrates with social networks giving students everywhere the community, applications and help to immediately improve their writing.
"The days of students doing all of their research and schoolwork in the library are long gone, and educators know it. Eduify's service will change the paradigm for how students write and research, using the tool they already feel the most comfortable with: the Internet," said, Dr. John Peper, former Superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools, one of the country's largest school districts. "Eduify's integrated approach makes discovering, sharing and using credible sources in written work instructive, yet simple. It also provides students with critical tutorials and models that reinforce what is taught in the classroom. I foresee Eduify's service powerfully connecting with students of all skill levels and socioeconomic classes, and helping them make significant strides toward improving their writing."
Eduify was born after its founder spent several summers placing promising high school and college interns with business mentors in Silicon Valley. At the end of each summer, the students were tasked with writing a paper about the experience. Students continually encountered problems when completing the assignment. Through these interactions a critical need was discovered: students not only lack the productivity tools to be successful, but also lack access to help when they need it most.
"I always seem to find myself stuck desperately searching the web for that perfect quote--not to mention how to cite it properly--for a paper at 2:00 a.m. the night before it's due." said Zara Castillo, Senior, University of Washington. "Eduify makes finding, adding and citing quotes simple - this is surely going to save me over and over again."
Students are more mobile than ever. They work when and where it is convenient. This often means that students lack appropriate word processing software, file storage and research tools, which results in lost papers and unnecessary re-work. Eduify provides a free web-based workspace built specifically for students' writing needs which can be accessed via a web browser or cell phone.
Eduify's research also shows that students often get stuck in different places during the typical academic writing process, for example, creating a thesis statement or outlining a five-paragraph essay. Eduify offers a variety of services to tackle these hurdles. These services include teacher-written tutorials and models on a variety of topics which are easily discovered to help students get started or past common problems fast. Additionally, the writing coach service offers tailored help--including proofreading and editing services for a fee--is available to make papers perfect before submission.
Eduify gained access to the Azure Services Platform after being selected to join the Microsoft BizSpark program. Building their service on the Azure Services Platform, specifically .NET Services, helped Eduify reduce the time to market while minimizing costs. Eduify has partnered with Microsoft to rapidly deploy, scale and deliver its service reliably on Windows Azure, the development and runtime environment for the Azure Services Platform.
"Eduify's web service demonstrates how a startup can take advantage of Microsoft technologies to create an innovative solution and in this case work to improve education," said Dan'l Lewin, corporate vice president of Strategic and Emerging Businesses Development at Microsoft Corp. "Through the BizSpark program, Microsoft is helping startups like Eduify by providing them with a wide range of end-to-end software and Microsoft's Azure Services Platform, a set of cloud platform technologies, to help them build a scalable and sustainable business."
"Eduify's mission is to give every student the tools and services they so critically need to become better writers," said Dan Merritts, Eduify, Vice President of Marketing. "We are enthusiastic about President Obama's impetus to re-invigorate education in America. We're excited to join the cause by helping students everywhere significantly improve the often under-taught, yet critically important skill of writing."
