Santa Barbara, Calif. and Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) March 18, 2009
Two leaders in professional development for librarians and educators will join forces to provide the library and education communities with the next generation of resources, workshops and tools for professional development. Libraries Unlimited today announced the acquisition of Linworth Publishing. The partnership between these award-winning publishers, with a combined history of more than 60 years serving the library and information communities, is effective immediately.
Founded in 1986 by Marlene Woo-Lun, president and publisher, Linworth Publishing has long been known for its flagship magazine - "LIBRARY MEDIA CONNECTION" - as well as its impressive list of professional books by innovative practitioners in the library community, ranging from creators of the "Big 6," Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, to copyright expert Carol Simpson. In addition, Linworth leads the industry in using technology to deliver live, professional development with offerings such as "Linworth @ The Forefront Webinars" on topics ranging from grant-writing to Web 2.0 tools for professional development. Woo-Lun will be joining the new organization as publisher.
"For the past 20 years, our focus at Linworth has been to provide librarians and educators with professional development resources on practical, timely topics. With this emphasis, our magazine, 'LIBRARY MEDIA CONNECTION,' has become school librarians' go-to resource for professional information and reviews," said Woo-Lun. "Now, through this partnership with Libraries Unlimited, we will offer librarians and educators a broader, deeper portfolio of tools and resources to support their goals for service."
Founded in the 1960s, Libraries Unlimited is considered the leading imprint in textbooks and bibliographic reference for library science today. Among its extensive list of authors are the most well-known and highly respected professionals in the school, public and academic library communities. In addition to monographs, Libraries Unlimited publishes several professional print and online periodicals, including the magazines "School Library Media Activities Monthly" and "Crinkles," and "Children's Magazine Guide," as well as the Reader's Advisor Online, an online reference resource. Through Teacher Ideas Press, Libraries Unlimited publishes books for educators, written by educators, which span the curriculum and focus on innovative ideas, practical lessons and classroom-tested activities.
"At a time when library use in this country is exploding, it is more important than ever that school, public and academic librarians have access to high-quality, affordable professional development opportunities that address a wide variety of topics and issues," said Ron Maas, vice president, Libraries Unlimited. "With Linworth's practical, actionable professional development materials complemented by Libraries Unlimited's experience and focus on the theory and practice of library service, we will provide librarians and educators with the highest quality, cutting-edge resources for pursuing professional development. I look forward to working with Marlene as we join forces to serve the library and education communities in even more relevant and creative ways than ever before."
Libraries Unlimited is an imprint of ABC-CLIO, an award-winning publisher of reference titles, academic and general-interest books, electronic resources, and books for librarians and other professionals.
