Taninah, Mexico (PRWEB) March 20, 2009
The phenomenal success of Taninah, a one-of-a-kind vacation experience and magical rental property in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, is due in large part to recent trends of togetherness and celebration travel. The 10-acre jungle paradise is ideal for family gatherings that include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, children and even close friends. Taninah, a secluded enclave of thatched roof bungalows available to only one group at a time, has become a sought after choice for guests booking family reunions, destination weddings and anniversary celebrations.
A luxury retreat, Taninah (http://www.taninah.com) is the perfect hacienda for the whole gang. Guests travel down an unmarked road through a jungle canopy to a truly "off the grid" vacation estate. There they rule a jungle roost comprised of five airy guesthouses of such unusual design they've been featured on HGTV's "Extreme Homes." Each guesthouse sleeps from four to ten, with the potential of accommodating up to 35 people; the average number of guests is 18.
Choosing a destination for a reunion or celebration that offers enough privacy and enough togetherness has become a challenge, especially in tough economic times. Spreading out in a series of hotel rooms at a cookie cutter resort is not conducive to family bonding, while crowding into a vacation house can create too much togetherness especially if your party includes a teething 18-month-old.
The solution is Taninah, which provides guests with exclusive use of their own luxurious private retreat. Rather than being limited to one structure, residential lot and common pool, guests are offered acres of lawns and gardens in a private retreat for under $200 a night per person, including three meals a day, comparable to the cost of a standard hotel room.
"In the Mayan language, 'tani' means first or in front of, and 'nah' means home," says owner Marino Tomacelli. "Taninah is the perfect name because we were the first ones to build in the virgin Mayan jungle. Now we offer Taninah's natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere and unforgettable ambiance for family reunions, weddings and other special occasions."
Environmental Features and Property Amenities
The epitome of responsible eco-development, Taninah was constructed with indigenous renewable materials, including limestone, grass thatch and select timber to provide naturally cool accommodations while safeguarding the environment. The grounds were carefully prepared and groomed to enhance the natural jungle setting instead of obliterating it, with development limited to only 2.5 percent of the total area. Taninah generates its own electrical power by an off-grid hybrid solar energy system. All water used on the property is supplied by Taninah's own cenote--a cave with an intricate honeycombed maze of freshwater underground rivers--just as the ancient Mayans used cenotes for everything from drinking water to irrigation to religious ceremonies.
Terraced gardens, extensive lawns, tropical trees, an orchard, waterfalls, a meandering creek and a duck pond grace the landscape and frame the guesthouses in an incomparable setting. The highlight is Taninah's own cenote with its 30-foot underground waterslide and 13-foot waterfall. Other onsite recreational facilities abound: extensive outdoor play areas, a children's padded playroom, a pool, a tree house with a zip line, and a nine-hole mini golf course.
The attentive Mayan staff of ten lives on-site. They are available 24/7 to assist guests with any requests, such as arranging for excursions or spa services, including sacred hot stone massages.
Nearby Attractions and Excursions
Taninah can arrange for a variety of excursions; Mayan ruins, snorkeling, diving, fishing, sailing, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding and ATV tours are just minutes away. Although it feels totally secluded, Taninah is conveniently located near the area's major attractions, including Xpu-Ha Beach, one of the least known but most spectacular white sandy beaches on the Caribbean, and the eco-archeological park of Xcaret.
Visitors interested in history or archaeology have a wide selection of superb Mayan ruins to visit. Tulum, the only Mayan city built on the coast and sited on a cliff along the Caribbean, is 25 minutes south of Taninah. Thousands make a pilgrimage there each year. Guests may also visit the nearby ruins of Coba, Uxmal or Chichen Itza.
The cosmopolitan town of Playa del Carmen, with its famous 5th Avenue pedestrian walkway, is also minutes away. Playa del Carmen offers ferries to Cozumel, Mexico's largest island, with first rate scuba diving and shopping.
Dining at Taninah
Taninah's rate includes three Mayan style meals a day. Guests rave about the delicious food with menus offering exciting new twists on Mexican foods, fresh seafood and genuine Yucatecan cuisine, using the freshest local ingredients
Mayan Chef Leopoldo centers his menus on his most popular dishes. Guests enjoy fresh fruit with every breakfast (a favorite selection is the Mayan Toast--even better than the French version) and lunch. Dinners include Chef Leopoldo's homemade soups or salads as well as delicious, well seasoned, native dishes. There's no need to worry about finicky eating kids--alternative children's menus are available for those under 12.
In addition, the staff will gladly honor special meal requests, such as preparing fresh fish from guests' fishing excursions. Meal times are based on guests' schedules, not the staff's. Some vacationers feel so at home that they even go to breakfast in their p.j.'s.
2009 Standard Nightly Rates
The standard nightly rate for the first 10 guests is $1,950. The charge for each additional guest is $98 per night. Taninah does not charge for children under six years of age. Transportation to and from the airport for up to 20 guests is included in Taninah's rates.
Taninah is usually rented on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday. The weekly rate includes a starter beverage package including purified water, ice, beer and wine. Taninah also offers a shopping service for additional food and beverage provisions.
