Detailed blood disease animations and short films are now available on http://www.bloodthevitalconnection.org, a site launched by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) that is designed to educate the public about the importance of healthy blood.
Approved by a scientific advisory board, the short films offer insight into the science of hematology. "What is Hematology?" explores the nature and purpose of the field as it relates to patients. For medical students, "Why Choose Hematology?" highlights the challenges and rewards of a career in hematology.
Located throughout the site, animations provide visual representations of various hematologic diseases and disorders, including (but not limited to) anemia, bleeding disorders, and blood cancers such as lymphoma.
Developed by ASH, Blood: The Vital Connection aims to raise awareness about the most common blood diseases. ASH welcomes patients, medical students, and doctors to view these easy-to-understand animations and short films and share them with others.
The American Society of Hematology (http://www.hematology.org) is the world's largest professional society concerned with the causes and treatment of blood disorders. Its mission is to further the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting blood, bone marrow, and the immunologic, hemostatic, and vascular systems, by promoting research, clinical care, education, training, and advocacy in hematology.
