I was so touched by the children and yet so saddened about the conditions, that I just had to be a part of it. I had to make a difference in the world

With a nation that is gripped with fear and uncertainty, one entrepreneur steps up to the plate for the sake of charity. Tribeca Co. owner Joyce Kohn believes that to be successful, one's purpose has got to be bigger than the individual.
Last April, when Tribeca owner Joyce Kohn flew to New York to launch her candle company, while trekking around TriBeCa she stumbled upon The Tribeca Film Festival getting ready to go into all the glitz and glamour that the film festival brings about. She offered her candles for the gift bags and by the time she touched back down in San Francisco, she had almost 400 candles to deliver within about a week. Working around the
clock, the candles made it to the gift bags in time. That is where she saw the film debut of "I am" Raising Malawi.
"I was so touched by the children and yet so saddened about the conditions, that I just had to be a part of it. I had to make a difference in the world," said Kohn. Tribeca's "Raising Malawi" "I AM" candle sells on its website for $25 dollars. $8 dollars goes to the Home of Hope Orphanage in Malawi where just $4 dollars a day feeds and educates one child and approximately $16 dollars gives a village clean water for nearly 6 months.
Tribeca has also been involved with Russell Simmons foundation Art For Life where they donated candles for the August, 2008 gala.
