Dr. Robert Hogan, an American psychologist know for his innovations in personality assessment, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness, will travel to Hong Kong March 22–28, 2009 to offer his expertise to the prestigious psychological community of Hong Kong.
Dr. Hogan will serve as the external advisor of the graduate program in Industrial-Organizational (I/O) Psychology in the Psychology Department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The CUHK I/O program was established in 1997 and is the only program in Hong Kong that provides a full-time masters degree in I/O psychology.

During Dr. Hogan’s visit, he will give a lecture during a research seminar for the CUHK faculty and invited guests on March 24th, 11:00am, at CUHK. Dr. Hogan will also speak during a dinner talk for the Division of I/O Psychology (DIOP) of the Hong Kong Psychological Society on March 26th, 7:00pm. DIOP was formed in 2000 and aims to promote the identity, cohesion, and recognition of I/O psychologists in Hong Kong. Its members comprise students of I/O psychology, academic members, I/O psychology consultants, and corporate members.
Dr. Hogan will speak on topics such as employee engagement; identity versus reputation; and the Hogan Leadership Value Chain. Dr. Hogan states, “Leadership matters – the persons in charge of organizations can make or ruin them. Leadership is the most important topic in the social, behavioral, and organizational sciences. When good leadership prevails, organizations and people prosper. Bad leadership is almost always accompanied by disasters.”
Dr. Hogan's work in personality measurement is as distinctive as it is theory-based. He is widely credited with demonstrating how personality factors influence organizational effectiveness in a variety of areas ranging from organizational climate and leadership to selection and effective team performance. Hogan is the author of more than 300 journal articles, chapters, and books including his latest release, Personality and the Fate of Organizations.
