Creating a green building in today's world is more important than ever. Not only does a sustainable building help protect our environment, but it can offer many advantages to the building owner and occupants. The United States Green Building Council, in an attempt to set standardization for green buildings nationally, has created the LEED® guidelines. The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) system is a points-based system in which a building is awarded points for each part of the building that is environmentally sustainable. Once a building has accumulated a set amount of points it is awarded a green status. The basic status is certified, followed by silver, gold, then platinum, the highest status one can reach in the LEED® point system.

Precast concrete fencing is the perfect material to use to augment your project's recognition as a sustainable build. Artisan Precast's precast concrete fencing is made using recycled cementitious materials and 90% post-consumer steel. Artisan's precast fencing system incorporates a post and pier foundation which uses substantially less concrete and rebar in the foundation compared to traditional concrete block or continuous-footer masonry walls. The product is superior to monolithic panels in material use yielding excellent performance using 55% less material. The product outperforms wood in terms of sustainability and chemicals required for preservation. It is also colored in the manufacturing process which eliminates the need for painting, thus preventing VOC release at the job site. Further, the Artisan Precast system utilizes precast components which are manufactured, packaged and shipped to meet the parameters for each job which reduces waste and landfill use. Potential eligibility for LEED® points include MRc4, MRc5 and IDc1.1
