Dr. Gregg Baron, a Doctor of Chiropractic, trained at the Life Chiropractic School in Marietta, Georgia has a unique approach to his practice members' wellness care. In the early 90's, he, and his partner, Dr. Brian Stenzler created the idea for D.R.E.A.M. Wellness.
"The word wellness was not even in the dictionary at the time," says Dr. Baron. "People had begun talking about it, however no one really understood what it meant. My partner and I came up with the acronym D.R.E.A.M., which stands for Diet, Relaxation, Exercise, being in Adjustment and Mental Wellness, which we consider to be the five facets of true wellness."
The doctors do not consider these facets to be services, but rather areas of wellness which must be pursued and preserved to maintain a fully dynamic and healthful life. "In our offices, we refer to our membership as practice members. The word 'patient' comes from a Latin word meaning 'to suffer,' it has no place in our office. Practice members on the other hand are individuals who take responsibility for their health and are looking to form a partnership with our D.R.E.A.M. team. Practice members proactively enter our office seeking to be better than they were yesterday, they are not looking for someone to fix them. Patients enter medical offices looking for treatment of a particular problem. This is not health care, this is sick care. They opt into this system after they have already experienced something wrong. People mistakenly view this as health care. We take a very different approach."
Growing from a single office, located in Great Neck, NY, in 2000, the D.R.E.A.M. family has now grown to include locations in Lake Grove, NY, Del Mar, and Pacific Beach, CA. Dr. Baron is extremely pleased to see the growth that his D.R.E.A.M. centers have seen. "I have been operating the Lake Grove location since 2003, while my partner Dr. Brian Stenzler moved to San Diego California and opened up offices in Pacific Beach and Solana Beach, CA. Dr. Adam Glassman is the current Director of the Great Neck location."
Dr. Baron believes that it's never too early, or too late, to begin what he calls "living the D.R.E.A.M." "Our program," he says, "is inclusive of everyone and excludes no one."
