CentralDispatch Reports Auto Dealer Vehicle Shipment Postings Increase in February to Highest in the Company's History

CentralDispatch dealer members across the U.S. posted an average of almost 650 vehicles per day in February. This is up from a 2008 low of 450 postings per day in December. The increase suggests that dealers are moving more pre-owned inventory and using online auctions around the nation to source vehicles.

CentralDispatch® (http://www.CentralDispatch.com), the automotive industry's online transportation marketplace, today announced that vehicle shipment postings by auto dealers increased in February to their highest level in the company's ten year history. CentralDispatch dealer members across the U.S. posted an average of almost 650 vehicles per day in February. This is up from a 2008 low of 450 postings per day in December. The increase suggests that dealers are moving more pre-owned inventory and using online auctions around the nation to source vehicles.    

Average daily dealer vehicle postings dropped by 17.6% from August 2008 to December 2008. The lower number of shipments on CentralDispatch indicates that dealers bought fewer used vehicles during this time. However, average daily dealer postings increased by 21.1% between December 2008 and January 2009 and returned to August 2008 levels, indicating that sales of used vehicles had picked up in January to levels seen at the end of last summer.

Further evidence suggests that the prospects for used car dealers are continuing to improve as they are shipping significantly more vehicles. Average daily dealer shipment postings increased by 14.2% between January 2009 and February 2009 to CentralDispatch's highest ever level of dealer postings. Looking at year-over-year changes, February 2009 average daily postings per dealer increased by 13.5% from February 2008.    

"The bottom line is that dealers on CentralDispatch are now shipping more vehicles than ever before; showing the resilience of the used car market," commented Joe Steinberger, CentralDispatch vice president of product and business development. "The increase is most likely due to the increasing demand for used vehicles, and the fact that dealers are sourcing vehicles from further away. This is consistent with our recent dealer survey results that revealed 67% of CentralDispatch dealers are sourcing vehicles from online auctions around the country."
