The UC3 Database provides several critical benefits for vendors, systems integrators and end customers:

Analysts can radically reduce the time spent researching websites, marketing material, detailed user guides and feature descriptions to understand, compare and evaluate what is included in each vendor's offers;

Any subset of features can be compared and analyzed in a clear, standardized format that highlights differences among the products and may focus further investigative efforts;

According to Ken Dolsky, Program Manager for UC3 and chief architect of the database, "Vendors' demonstrations of their UC clients are impressive and appealing, but confusing in that buyers may not know exactly what is/is not included. The large number of functions in these clients and absence of standard feature definitions, make them very difficult to compare and fully understand the strengths/weaknesses tradeoffs of one over another before investing." He continued, "For example, each client provides presence capability but such differences as number of specific states, access to and use of presence data sources, and customer flexibility to modify presence descriptors are critical distinguishing factors. Without this level of comparison, these differences are not evident. Until now, there has been no benchmark for comparison of the rapidly evolving solutions entering the market. For customers making purchase decisions or providers doing competitive analysis, this is the place to start."
