March 24th's health feature on "The Today Show" on MSNBC provides an intelligent discussion of current medical treatments for back pain, and is the same treatment used at Fort Lauderdale-based Back To Health Physical Therapy. The show features a 39 year old mother of two, Linda Michel, whose back pain started small and got progressively worse until it was debilitating. (Link to video of Today Show piece: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/29835087/#29835087) After imaging, she was diagnosed with not one or two, but three herniated discs. Her treatment was a physical therapy program providing education about her condition, strengthening on specialized medical exercise equipment, and a simple home exercise program. Linda is shown doing supervised exercise on the same medical exercise equipment featured at Back To Health, a local physical therapy clinic that specializes in treating patients with chronic back or neck pain. "Our equipment and methods are "state of the art" and in line with current medical thinking", says Darlene Wooldridge, owner and physical therapist at Back to Health. She adds: "There are a lot of unproven treatments being pushed on consumers, whereas our methods are backed by excellent clinical and university studies. We have excellent outcomes with those individuals who are motivated to return to their normal activities. Many of our patients have literally tried everything else, and are thrilled when we can help them get their lives back, whether that means playing 18 holes of golf, competing in a triathlon or simply keeping up with the kids."
