It hit me that with this economy, stress is going to get worse for new parents, so I need to try and do my part to help them.
Holland, Michigan (PRWEB) March 28, 2009
Scott Patchin, a Michigan author and father of four, has decided to offer his own version of a stimulus plan - focused on the social capital in our lives. Anyone wanting to read his book can - for FREE. A copy of his book, which has received a Mom's Choice Award®, is available as a download from his website, http://www.momentsforfathers.com. "I recently read about a study on the stress of being a new father, and one finding was 10% of new fathers suffer from real depression," notes Patchin. "It hit me that with this economy, stress is going to get worse for new parents, so I need to try and do my part to help them."
Scott wrote this book with the first time father in mind. He envisioned it coming to them as a gift from a person in a position to offer encouragement, support, or a listening ear - maybe a spouse, friend, parent, sibling, or in-law. This book is designed to start conversations and provoke some thinking. It is also meant to be personalized, with space in the front for a handwritten note that will provide a constant source of encouragement for Dad.
Patchin adds, "It is through these interactions with the new father that friends and family can become a support network that he needs. Many of us feel there are a lot of things out of our control right now, but the one thing we do control is our time. That time needs to be spent connecting with friends and supporting each other."
"My idea would be that every father has three people other than Mom that he can lean on. One to just listen, one to offer some timely wisdom, and one to challenge him when his life balance gets a little out of whack. I wrote So You're Gonna Be A DAD, Now What? to help build that community of support around Dad."
Patchin has one more challenge for fathers - if you like the book, offer a donation of time or money to a local charity. "There are many organizations focused on bringing hope back to the lives of people in need," says the author. He adds, "My personal mission with my book is to take a portion of all my sales and give back to organizations focused on rebuilding relationships in the lives of children. I encourage you to offer some support to an organization you feel passionate about."
The book was published through Credo House Publishers. It is currently available on-line through Patchin's website, http://www.momentsforfathers.com/ and through Amazon.com, in both print and Kindle formats. It is also available through http://www.mobipocket.com in a format compatible with mobile devices.
