Author and spirituality-workshop leader Vinita Hampton Wright believes that it’s time for women of faith to stop apologizing—for who they are or who they’ve been, for what they feel and know, and for their powerful ability to connect with spiritual reality. Wright’s new book, Days of Deepening Friendship: For the Woman Who Wants Authentic Life with God, explores the notion that when a woman is free to be her true self she can embark upon a friendship with God.

Women should be free to bring their honest experience into this relationship. This experience includes specific challenges that come with being women in the world. But we also bring specific gifts to the spiritual venture--such as the ability to listen and converse, and the spiritual intuition through which the Holy Spirit has spoken since the time of the earliest prophets.

Author and spirituality-workshop leader Vinita Hampton Wright believes that it's time for women of faith to stop apologizing--for who they are or who they've been, for what they feel and know, and for their powerful ability to connect with spiritual reality. Wright's new book, Days of Deepening Friendship: For the Woman Who Wants Authentic Life with God, explores the notion that when a woman is free to be her true self and to express to God--without fear--her loves, dreams, pains, and passions, she can embark upon a friendship with God that would otherwise be impossible to develop.

Using forty short chapters, Wright guides women to explore the deeper regions of relationship: beginning, hesitation, awareness, resistance, conversation, attention, engagement, and ultimately love. The material--which includes stories, Scripture, meditations, and written exercises--focuses on women's real experiences and spiritual sensitivities. Wright even taps into the proven and increasingly popular wisdom of Ignatian spirituality, employing prayer, imagination, action, and reflection throughout her book.

The book was born of Hampton Wright's desire to simply "welcome women into God's ongoing friendship." Says Wright: "Women should be free to bring their honest experience into this relationship. This experience includes specific challenges that come with being women in the world. But we also bring specific gifts to the spiritual venture--such as the ability to listen and converse, and the spiritual intuition through which the Holy Spirit has spoken since the time of the earliest prophets." The author hopes that, through this book, women will come to see a relationship with God as something to be fostered rather than feared.

Wright is the author of many books, including The Soul Tells a Story, The St. Therese of Lisieux Prayer Book, Simple Acts of Moving Forward, and the novel Dwelling Places. She has also been a book editor for nearly twenty years. She and her husband live in Chicago.

Vinita will be giving nation-wide retreats and workshops on her book. She is currently leading a free online retreat.
