New Case Study by One Step Retail Solutions Shows Pump Station Continuing to Expand Despite Shaky Economic Climate

For these retailers, it's all about knowing your customers and servicing them, especially in trying times. After all, people still continue to have babies.

A new case study released today by One Step Retail Solutions (, one of the country's largest providers of technology systems for retail stores, highlights the continued growth of The Pump Station and Nurtury, a retail business built around a consulting partnership catering to breast-feeding mothers.

According to Pump Station COO Cheryl Petran, the way that they are continuing to expand has everything to do with the technology being utilized in the store. "I learned many years ago: manage your inventory smart and manage your vendors smart. I can do both with my POS system," claims the up-beat executive. "One of the scariest things in bad economic times is that your inventory will run away with you; open to buy is important, not buying stupid; we're not going to come out of this year overstocked, and we're managing markdowns very well."

One Step Retail Solutions provided both the software and hardware for the systems in both the Pump Station Santa Monica, CA store and the Hollywood, CA store. One Step CEO Scott Kreisberg said, "These are the kind of retailers that we love to work with. They know their customers, know what they want and we supply the systems so that they always have the right inventory in their store."

Petran goes on to add: "One Step Retail Solutions has very good systems and the service is very good. And very responsive! I also like the fact that they understand retail and things beyond what's going into the POS. My One Step system consultant understands all facets of the business from SKUs to PL and balance sheet; he's got a broad understanding from micro to accounting. I tend to think beyond just the report I'm in and he sees it the same way."

Pump Station has experienced 20% growth in their Santa Monica store and 83% growth in the Hollywood store.

Even as people still continue to have babies, The Pump Station and Nurtury is having its own family expansion. While some retailers are hesitating in the current economy, Pump Station is planning to open two new stores during 2009.

About The Pump Station and Nurtury:

Almost 30 years ago, Wendy Haldeman and Corky Harvey met as Lamaze instructors, developed a Baby Care class and found themselves renting breast pumps out of their homes. They then trained at UCLA in one of the country's first clinical lactation consulting programs and finally opened their first little breastfeeding center, the first new parent resource center of its kind. Many of their clients wanted products to help them with breastfeeding and parenting, so they responded by carrying nursing bras and a selection of high quality baby care items. They outgrew that first space and moved to their current 3200 sq. ft. location in Santa Monica twelve years ago, and in July 2005 opened their second location in Hollywood with 2300 sq ft. Website:
