Surgical Video Presented at the AAOS Annual Conference

Extensile Surgical Approach for Resecting Tumors of the Axilla and Brachial Plexus Educational Video produced by James C. Wittig, MD, Sarcoma Surgeon and Orthopedic Oncologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), Las Vegas, NV

New York, New York (PRWEB) March 31, 2009 -- "Extensile Surgical Approach for Resecting Tumors of the Axilla and Brachial Plexus" educational video produced by James C. Wittig, MD, Chief of Orthopedic Oncology and Sarcoma Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center was recently accepted and presented at the annual American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) Conference.

Known for his commitment and hands- on teaching approach, the video being used at the seminar demonstrates the complexity and intricacies involved in the extensile approach for resection of a large schwannoma of the brachial plexus. This is a safe and reliable procedure for resecting tumors in this difficult anatomic location, the axilla and brachial plexus. The procedure permits adequate visualization of the tumor and vital neurovascular structures. Sarcomas as well as other large tumors in the axilla and brachial plexus can be safely separated from the brachial plexus and axillary vessels and removed utilizing this approach.    Dr. Wittig illustrates and narrates, step-by-step, the surgical approach for this type of resection. To view this video please go to the website of the AAOS www.aaos.org/products (product no. 19131)

Recently voted by Castle Connolly as a Top Doctor and Orthopedic Surgeon in the NY Metro Area, Dr. Wittig is Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Chief Orthopedic Oncology (Pediatric and Adult) at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Chief, Orthopaedic Oncology and Director, Sarcoma Division of=2 0the Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center.
