RBC desiFEST will host the official opening party to kick off South Asian Heritage Month in Ottawa on Monday, May 4 and will travel the country, landing in Toronto on Saturday, May 30; Montreal on Saturday, June 27; and Vancouver on Saturday, July 25, 2009.

Toronton, ON (PRWEB) March 31, 2009 -- RBC desiFEST will host the official opening party to kick off South Asian Heritage Month in Ottawa on Monday, May 4 and will travel the country, landing in Toronto on Saturday, May 30; Montreal on Saturday, June 27; and Vancouver on Saturday, July 25, 2009.

RBC desiFEST, a free all-day music festival, celebrating Canada's emerging South Asian artists and inspired music. This one-of-a-kind entertainment experience features the best in South Asian music and dance with contemporary indo-jazz fusion, global beats and cutting-edge DJs from Canada's South Asian music scene. Toronto's Yonge-Dundas Square and Vancouver's Plaza of Nations will be transformed into a colourful celebration of South Asian culture and music, showcasing over 100 artists across Canada.
   
"Last year, over 50,000 thousand people across the country took part in RBC desiFEST, creating a sense of celebration and community around a growing segment of the Canadian population. All indications are that this excitement will continue this year," said Andrea Metrick, head, Client Strategy and Multicultural Markets at RBC. "We have seen how such an occasion brings together people of all backgrounds and gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate all that the South Asian culture has to offer."

RBC desiFEST presents Canadian talent and will also showcase pioneers of Indian fusion music from around the world: Raghav and Blitz Krieg will headline the East Coast, while Apache Indian will headline the West Coast.

"Since we began in 2007, we have stayed true to our vision for creating a national platform for a talented generation of South Asian inspired artists and music," said RBC desiFEST Founder and Director, Sathish Bala. "It's wonderful to see the impact of "RBC desiFEST" as it brings together South Asian artists to finally showcase their music to new audiences in Canada."

This multi-city event will also host a bazaar featuring artisans and traditional South Asian delicacies, and dance and music workshops.
