The Surgical Workplaces Division of MAQUET Inc., a subsidiary of the Swedish-based Getinge Group and one of the oldest and largest surgical equipment companies in the world, has announced the launch of MAQUET TELEMEDICINE - a premium operating room integration system that seamlessly and securely manages electronic imagery and patient data in the operating room - with a best-in-class, intuitive user interface.

The MAQUET TELEMEDICINE system has:

  •     An easy-to-understand graphical user interface that requires no training, making it simple to use by the nurse operator
  •     System redundancy and security for HIPPA compliance, protecting confidential patient information
  •     Real workflow enhancements in storage and archiving by seamlessly interfacing with existing hospital IT (PACS) systems, using the universal DICOM standard format for patient data, images and HD video - with no third-party software required
  •     A modular design to allow for expansion and varying entry price points
  •     The ability to transfer data and images to PCs and laptops through a hospital's existing IT network or through the Internet

MAQUET uses only medical-grade audio-visual components for its TELEMEDICINE products, enabling virtually any type (digital or analog) of data or imagery input into its system. MAQUET recommends a "native" input-to-native output cabling plan to high-definition displays, but also supports a fully digital, fiber optic solution.

TELEMEDICINE IS UPGRADE-FRIENDLY

The modular nature of the MAQUET TELEMEDICINE design allows for "on-the-fly" upgrades at any time, as new input devices are acquired for the operating room. Additionally, the system can be configured to accommodate several budgetary price-points, including as a premium, fully loaded integration system; as the AV Conference Premium; or in a modular format, with basic switching capabilities. Additional features, including high-quality live "streams" of medical procedures over secure networks and the ability to record and archive data and imagery from the operating room, can be ordered as a la carte options.

MAQUET worked closely with physicians and hospitals around the world to develop a system that will drive operating room processes and workflow optimization. Since MAQUET TELEMEDICINE captures and transfers operating room procedure data and imagery directly to the existing hospital PAC system in DICOM format, third-party conversion and display software and hardware needs are eliminated. The surgeon can use existing hospital workstations to review any operating room imagery and thus reduce post-operative reporting time.

"The image quality and near latency-free, live transmission capabilities that the MAQUET TELEMEDICINE system offers will impress users of this system," said Al Richards, Senior Product Manager at MAQUET. "This system will also allow users the ability to communicate from a surgical setting to classrooms, conference rooms or even auditoriums like never before."
