Clements International Hosts Lawmakers on Capitol Hill for Overseas Americans Week Reception

During the week of March 30 - April 3, 2009, overseas Americans had their own week in the nation's capital to voice their needs and concerns to key lawmakers. Clements International, a leading insurance provider for expatriates and multinational organizations, and a long-term proponent of the expatriate community, sponsored a reception Wednesday, April 1 for members of Congress and representatives from three major overseas citizen advocacy groups.

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) April 6, 2009 -- During the week of March 30 - April 3, 2009, overseas Americans had their own week in the nation's capital to voice their needs and concerns to key lawmakers. Clements International, a leading insurance provider for expatriates and multinational organizations, and a long-term proponent of the expatriate community, sponsored a reception Wednesday, April 1 for members of Congress and representatives from three major overseas citizen advocacy groups.

Clements International's Director of Operations Lisa Kennedy and Business Development Manager Meg Boucher attended the reception to support the efforts of the Overseas Americans Week (OAW) Delegation.

"We are very pleased to have the honor of sponsoring this event on behalf of overseas Americans," said Boucher. "Clements was founded to protect expatriates from the unique risks they face and over 60 years later, we continue to meet the insurance needs of overseas Americans and the organizations that support them."

The OAW Delegation is composed of members from the Association of Americans Resident Overseas (AARO), American Citizens Abroad (ACA) and the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas Inc. (FAWCO). OAW organizations collaborate with the Americans Abroad Caucus, a group of 27 U.S. Congressional members. Formed in 2007, this caucus is the only structure in Washington, D.C. dedicated to addressing issues that affect overseas Americans. Through their combined efforts, the caucus and the OAW organizations have proposed legislation for overseas voting and taxation, and continue to spearhead upcoming legislative proposals.

Over the course of the week, the overseas delegates met with the Consular Service in the State Department, members of the Americans Abroad Caucus and other Congressional offices in order to generate effective communication with President Obama and Congress on issues including voting, taxation, citizenship, U.S. banking services, Medicare and Social Security.
